MicroTransit IndyCar Laser System
Advanced Racing Technologies (ART) of Staatsburg, New York completed a new version rotary laser for Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) of Bloomfield Hills Michigan. The new laser is a manual version of the auto-rotating laser-based reference measuring device. The automatic rotating laser system has been an integral component of CART’s Technical Inspection process throughout this year’s 1997 CART/PPG Championship. The automatic system was featured in the “Ford Facts” segment on ABC Sports coverage of the Miller 200 this past August.
The man-portable unit is a purpose built laser-optical system that creates a high-definition, visual reference plane for use in measuring conformance with CART’s technical specifications. Current enhancements include work on a new manual 360 degree rotary head and new laser target with digital readout and SPC capabilities. This new laser device will be introduced at the California 500 this coming weekend and will be available for production this year.
